I couldn’t find the Adobe tutorial that showed me how to create a pie shape in Illustrator, and I spent several minutes trying to figure out how to do it again, so that is why I created this tutorial. If you’re searching for an easy way to make a pie shape out of an ellipse, this is the way.
It’s really simple to create a pie shape or a pie slice shape from the Ellipse Tool in Illustrator.

Method 1: Drag the Pie Widgets
After creating your ellipse with the Ellipse Tool, click on it, and you’ll see a pie widget (circular handle) appear. Drag it in any direction to create the shape that you want.
If you want to revert your pie shape back to an ellipse, just double click either pie widget.
Method 2: Edit the Transform Panel
Click on the ellipse and go to the Transform Panel. If you don’t see it, open it by going to Window -> Transform. Change the angles to whatever you want. You can also invert the pie shape by clicking the opposite facing arrows underneath the angles.
